The Women

when the women leave
where will we be?
left alone with our dignity

in an empty room with nothing on
that’s where we’ll be
when the women are gone

when the women go home
to find themselves
we will count the books
upon our shelves

we will make up stories
add and subtract
but we really won’t know
how to act

or what to do
when the women are gone
